IRISE Announces Three Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunities

We are excited to announce three open postdoctoral fellow opportunities in the following areas: 

Educational Justice in Metropolitan School Districts 

Institutional Justice & the Criminal Justice System 

Racial Justice & Global Change 

 

Fellows will join an interdisciplinary team of scholars and practitioners working on cutting-edge issues of racial and social justice. These are two-year fellowships beginning August 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2025. These positions will provide experiences in research, teaching, and service, and prepare the fellow to pursue a professional trajectory including, but not limited to, tenure-track appointment in the academy.

Educational Justice in Metropolitan School Districts: 

This postdoctoral fellow the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to pursue an inter- and trans-disciplinary approach to understand, grow, and build various initiatives to meet the needs of a racially diverse and disparate urban communities. The position will provide experiences in research, teaching, and service, and prepare the fellow to pursue a professional trajectory including, but not limited to, tenure-track appointment in the academy. This search will be led by Dr. María Salazar, Professor of Curriculum & Instruction and Teacher Education in the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver. 


Institutional Justice & the Criminal Justice System:

Under the guidance and mentorship of an interdisciplinary team of faculty and community partners and in connection to IRISE’s Social Movement Support Lab, the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to pursue an inter- and trans-disciplinary approach to address on-going and deep-rooted racial disparities in the criminal justice system. The position will provide experiences in research, teaching, and service, and prepare the fellow to pursue a professional trajectory including, but not limited to, tenure-track appointment in the academy. This search will be led by Dr. Reginald Byron, Director of the Critical Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) Minor and Associate Professor in Sociology & Criminology, as well as CRES.


Racial Justice & Global Change:

Under the guidance and mentorship of a team of faculty working at the intersection of sustainability and social justice, the postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to pursue an inter- and trans-disciplinary approach to examining climate (in)justice. We are especially interested in scholars working in collaboration with community partners to explore and address the impacts of climate change on the health and well-being of natural and human systems vis-a-vis racially minoritized communities. This search will be led by Drs. Rebecca Powell and Tom Romero. Dr. Powell is Associate Professor in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Director of the Undergraduate GIS Program. Dr. Tom Romero, J.D., is Associate Professor in the Sturm College of Law, Affiliated Faculty in the Department of History, and Faculty Director of IRISE.
